Pensaments of an Anthropological Patzer

Comment Spam

For the past few weeks, I’ve been deleting upwards of a dozen comments re: various bodily organs. Unfortunately, the program that’s been harassing me is more patient than I am, and I’ve finally had to put the kibosh on it. I’ll be experimenting with various means of restriction. Once the current flood subsides, I’ll open things up again, but until then, don’t be surprised if a comment doesn’t appear immediately after posting.

Weird, this is way weird. You are grappling with censorship. How to be the person you present yourself to be, with the beliefs you purport to have throughout this blog and be the censor of the dive-bombers from the wild blue yonder coming at you from the sun where you don’t see them coming until they’re upon you.
That’s the way you’ve framed it.
But … and this is a big but.
The way you’ve done it is different than that. You’ve deleted posts that I know used to be here, that I read here from people I know are good people who did not / would not say anything bodily organ-like or worth restricting.
So … what is up ??
Is the “persistent program” excuse just the thin edge of the wedge for you to allow yourself to censor out more to your disliking than just bodily organ comments ?? Have you gone Commissar on us ??
And … knowing you have an explanation I haven’t thought of, in all likelihood … but thinking what if I am right? … I have to wonder why (and be insulted that) I wasn’t amongst the faces edited out of the pictures by the Gang of Four, or, if you’re going to be Stalin why aren’t I seen as a Trotskyist ?? My feelings are a little bruised but my pride is hurt a lot more.
Sincerely yours, I am awaiting the “comment doesn’t appear immediately after posting” scrutiny of the Committee for Blog Correctness

Whoa, easy on the accusations, there. I’m fairly certain that the poster that you’re talking about asked me to delete her comments. Only one person, by the way, so unless you’re friends with the person/bot with the unusual interest in titties, any comments posted by anyone other than that individual should still be here.

Also, I don’t see any sort of grappling going on, here; this is not a moral struggle for me. This is my blog. There’s enough free blog-hosting on the Internet that pretty much anyone can start their own. If I’m censoring here (and ‘censorship’ is an accurate, but loaded term for what I’m doing), I’m not preventing folks from tossing their two cents out somewhere on-line. I would be thrilled, NSM, to see critique of what I write or who I am in any blog entry’s comments. But I have no problem with censoring comments such as ‘fat-girl-with-huge-tits’ and ‘japanese-naked-tits-pussy’. Does that seem unduly censorious to you? If so, by all means start your own tit-laden blog and I’ll throw a link up in my blogroll.

    Whoa.
right back at you. Much of what I wrote attempted to be light hearted in an out there way. You took it different. Sorry about that. I did say it was likely you had an explanation. And you do.
You also try to dish back some of the same. I do like huge tits and naked tits and pussy. I am not tempted to display that particular like of mine on the internet. I won’t be starting the blog you urge me to start.
I don’t think your blog should be bombarded with spam and you are free to police your own blog in your own way. That doesn’t mean it escapes being a struggle for you to do so … or how to do so … how widely to do so … how often to do so. (My thin edge of the wedge comment.)
Me stating that I can see that it would be/should be a struggle for you can mean: if I were in your shoes I would come down on the same side of the struggle as you did/do. In fact I would.
    Here’s the crux:
To my knowledge: you did NOT just remove comments that were about naked pussy (Japanese or otherwise in origin) or big titties. You removed comments that I know were there and I had read and I had even mentioned in my responses … that had nothing in them that could even remotely be construed as being about naked Japanese anything. I don’t know why anyone would ask you to remove their comments but if you say someone did I believe you. (In fact now that I think of it, to avoid reactions such as mine: in another instance like that you might want to put a simple entry in your blog “I removed all comments by Xxxx today at her request” Even better: add something like “she did not say why she requested this” or “here is the only comment of hers I will be leaving posted on my blog — her request to me for the said deletion ‘Dear Pathawi, I am a wimp who cannot stand the cut and thrust of debate on the internet and I request that you remove all comments I ever made because I refuse to have my thoughts displayed anywhere that displays comments by NotSoMuch because he’s a dil’ I still love Xxxx and wish her all the best with her new baby” or whatever she actually wrote in the ’single quotes’. But …
And here’s the crux of the crux.
Which admittedly I only alluded to in my 1st comment (and again: apologies for my attempt at over the top lighthearted not coming through as intended. I thought me calling you Stalin would be immediately recognized as hyperbole) your explanation that you removed one person’s comments because-she-asked-you-to might be/should be sufficient IF it was true.
    It’s not.
Likely this has an explanation too. So I will hold off from calling you Stalin again. But I know you deleted more than one person’s comments. You deleted all the comments posted in your blog by more than one person. Neither person was posting about Japanese tits and naked pussy. Personally I never saw even one sex site spam comment. You hit all them before I ever saw them. But I did see the comments of the two people I am mentioning and now I can’t see them. They are gone. They were removed. Two of them are “airbrushed out of the photos” Overenthusiasm? An unintentional wide-sweep of your new broom because you are such a novice at censorship ??
And btw I am very big on grappling with moral struggles. You can diminish me or/and my comments here by the ad hom twisting that implies I want you to allow pr0n spam to posted as comments on your blog (which I don’t advocate because I happen to be anti not pro when it comes to most pr0n on the net) but don’t extend that to an indication that you don’t think morals are important and don’t try to tell me or all of us or yourself that you don’t think moral dilemmas are important grappling partners.
If you don’t think morals are important and don’t think grappling with moral dilemmas is necessary and good I’ll stop coming to read your blog because you’ve been lying in the majority of the entries I’ve read (I have read many, not all)

Please e-mail or PM me with the names of the people whose comments you think I’ve deleted. One of the two of us has made a mistake. To my knowledge, I’ve only deleted one person’s comments, and that at her request. That her name and the deletion not be mentioned was an implicit part of her request, though she did not ask this in so many words. I did not post about the deletion, as this situation was mainly the result of politics that had nothing to do with this blog.

I do think moral dilemmas are important. I didn’t find this to be one. My suggestion that you start your own pr0n blog, NSM, was exactly what you realised it was: a belief that if you can dish it out, you’d better be able to take it.

So, again, please let me know the names of the two people whose comments you believe I’ve censored. I’m aware of only the one.
