This morning, I forwarded this New York Times op-ed piece by David Brooks to the Anthro-L listserv. I was going to tear it apart, here, but Dustin Wax over at Savage Minds beat me to the chase, and did a far better job than I would have. One of the things I’ve wanted to do here (and have succeeded in on a couple occasions) is to provide critiques of the ideas about culture that the media feed Americans and Westerners. It’s important to be aware of how influential this stuff can be. Dustin’s posting is, in his word, ’snarky’, but worth your time.

(Incidentally, if, like me, you though that ‘fisking’ was yet another Dustinian Yiddishism, think again.)
